Comments and personal experiences and thoughts of the accuracy (or inaccuracy!) of Rokuyo.

I'm Chinese and live in Japan. Play pachinko sometimes and before you ask, no I never use Feng Shui to decide which machine to use. But I do check rokuyo sometimes. I've never won anything on a Butsumetsu day, but those seem to be the only days when I have free time to play. Double unlucky!

I was born at butsumetsu and I was thinking about stuff like this (even then I don't believe in this): Today's taian and for me it's bad luck everyday. Maybe the luck is changing depending on the birth day?

Why isn't the next week's Butsumetsu followed by Taian, though? This is highly unusual.

You're right, Anna. Well spotted! Monday 17 July 2023 is Butsumetsu, and Tuesday 18th is shown on the calendar as Shakku; not Taian as you might expect. This is because Tuesday 18th happens to be the first day of the next lunar month, and as such, the 6-day cycle starts afresh. To confuse things further, the first Rokuyo day of the cycle depends on which lunar month it is. And as you know, a lunar month is not an exact number of earth days. It's rounded up or down, to either 29 or 30 days. So the calendar correctly shows the cycle skipping a few days (in this case, just one day) whenever a new lunar month starts.

Great resource. Thank you!

A nice thing about Rokuyo is that Butsumetsu (unluckiest day) is invariably followed by Taian (luckiest day). A reminder that when life is glum, there's often something better about to happen. Comparable to English idioms such as "every cloud has a silver lining"; not true figuratively or literally, but encouraging. Is that the reason for Taian to follow Butsumetsu, perhaps? And are all the other 'days' arranged for similar reasons?

Today, August 14, is taian (the luckiest day) but I broke a bone in my foot. Not so lucky, eh?
